Birdhouse helps us improve the quality of care we give to seniors. It's a form of 'insurance' that is a must-have for stay-alone seniors.

Validated in real emergencies

During our 6-month paid pilot with New Hope Community Services, some care receivers experienced a medical emergency and were able to call for help themselves. In each case, Birdhouse independently detected and confirmed the unusual inactivity within 12–24 hours — confirming that, had they been unable to call for help, Birdhouse would have flagged it to their caregivers.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about Birdhouse.

What is Birdhouse?

Birdhouse is an AI-powered monitoring system for seniors living alone. It uses discreet motion sensors to learn a senior's daily routine and automatically alerts family caregivers and Active Ageing Centres when unusual inactivity is detected, so help can arrive early.

How does Birdhouse work?

A small Zigbee motion sensor detects everyday movement at home and sends activity data to a hub. Birdhouse's AI learns the senior's normal patterns and sends an alert — through a messaging app or daily report — when expected activity is missing, such as no motion detected in the morning.

Does Birdhouse use cameras? Is it private?

No. Birdhouse uses no cameras, no audio or video recording and no heat mapping — and no wearables. It only tracks anonymous signs of movement, which are encrypted and protected with role-based access. The prototype deliberately left out a camera because the seniors interviewed by the team wanted privacy.

How much does Birdhouse cost?

Birdhouse is a simple monthly subscription with no separate hardware fee. The Basic plan is S$25/month and includes a hub and 1 motion sensor. The Essential plan is S$30/month and adds a door sensor and an SOS/panic button. Additional sensors are +S$5/month each.

Who is Birdhouse for?

Birdhouse is built for seniors living alone, their families and caregivers, and for Active Ageing Centres (AACs) and community service teams who need to keep watch over many seniors at once.

Do seniors need to change their daily routine or charge anything?

No. Birdhouse is non-intrusive and low-maintenance. Seniors do not need to wear a device, press buttons or change their behaviour, and the sensors run on long-life batteries.

What devices does Birdhouse include?

Birdhouse includes a hub that connects your sensors to the cloud, one or more motion sensors that detect activity, an optional door sensor for home-presence detection, and an optional SOS/panic button for emergencies. You can add more sensors at any time for S$5/month each.

Where is Birdhouse available, and is it proven?

Birdhouse is based in Singapore and has run real-world pilots with care partners including Jia Ying and Chong Hua Tong Active Ageing Centres and a 6-month paid pilot with New Hope Community Services — 16+ homes and 380,000+ check-ins in total. During the New Hope pilot, Birdhouse independently detected and confirmed inactivity linked to real medical emergencies. It was one of the winning projects at Build for Good 2024 and was featured by The Straits Times.
